Who Are We?
Where we came from...
Clermont County Public Library began library service in 1955, with a bookmobile and a small office as its first facilities. Since then, the library system has expanded to 10 locations, achieving a goal of the Library Board to have a library within fifteen minutes driving time of all Clermont County residents.
Who's in Charge...
The library is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Clermont County Commissioners and the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas. The board, in turn, hires the library director who implements policies and oversees operations.
How it's funded...
Clermont County Public Library receives its revenue from several sources. The state legislature provides the majority of the funding from its biennial budget, while additional money comes from local property taxes. CCPL recently passed a $.9 Mil operating levy in 2008. Library fines and fees provide the last, and smallest, portion.
STATE FUNDING
In 2008, CCPL received $5,894,000 from the Public Library Fund (PLF) as allocated by the state legislature. This was a decrease from the $5,991,000 received in 2007. In 2009, current PLF projections were changed from $6,157,000 to $4,779,000 a significant reduction in funding. This number does not include additional cuts proposed by Governor Strickland.PROPERTY TAX
CCPL revenue from local property tax prior to the passage of the 2008 levy stood at $1,200,000. The library's estimated collection after the levy passage was $3,868,000. Due to delinquency taxes and lower property values, that number has fallen to $3,306,000.*These figures do not include monies collected for fines, fees, etc.
