Posting and Distribution of Non-Library Materials

It is the policy of Clermont County Public Library, as a part of its information mission and commitment to community involvement, to provide access to community information. This is done by providing space for the free distribution of handouts and the public posting of flyers, notices, posters and, when appropriate, yard signs. Materials from for-profit groups, companies, organizations or individuals are not accepted. When space is limited, preference may be given to local organizations and events.

Bulletin Board Use

  1. Poster space for non-Library related services and events is provided as a community service by the Clermont County Public Library. The posting of such advertisements does not imply their endorsement by the Clermont County Public Library staff or Board of Trustees.
    (This notice is posted on all public bulletin boards along with a notice reading: "For permission to display material, please see the branch manager.")
  2. Each branch location has a bulletin board for community use. Information that meets the following criteria may be posted:
    1. It is consistent with the Library's mission and goals.
    2. The event posted is openly welcome to all individuals.
    3. It is sponsored by a non-profit organization.
      (Note: Non-profit fund raising events are permissible if space allows.)
    4. The Library director(s) or a designated staff member has approved the item to be posted.
    5. The item is of a suitable size for the display area.
  3. Information that includes the following criteria will not be posted on public bulletin boards:
    1. Items that promote for-profit services, organizations or individuals.
    2. Posters for partisan political events
    3. Personal notices of any kind.
  4. All items posted may remain on a public bulletin board for 7 to 30 days, depending on the timeliness of the event.
  5. Posters announcing on-going activities, services or events are permitted under the same guidelines as above.

General Information Material

  1. In addition to providing public bulletin board space, each branch also provides some space for the distribution of general information material. This material must meet the same criteria as that for public bulletin board use. The material must:
    1. Be consistent with the Library's mission and goals.
    2. The services or events promoted must be openly welcoming to all individuals.
    3. The material is sponsored by a non-profit organization.
      • Exception: community newspapers – newspapers produced by for-profit organizations but that are distributed free of charge, with or without advertising, that contains news and feature articles relevant to the community are accepted for distribution.
    4. The material must be approved by the director(s) or a designated staff member prior to being made available.
    5. The material is of a suitable size for the distribution area.
  2. Information that includes the following criteria will not be made available by the Library for distribution:
    1. Items that promote for-profit services, organizations or individuals.
    2. Personal notices or advertisements of any kind.
  3. All items posted may remain in a public distribution area for 7 to 30 days, depending on the timeliness of the information.
  4. Information about on-going activities, services or events are permitted under the same guidelines as above, but may remain in a public distribution area indefinitely.
