Have a "good thyme" learning about herbs at the Clermont County Public Library. The Log Cabin Herb Society has donated several new herb resources to the Library's collection.
Marilyn Nies, a nine-year member of The Society, says, "We knew the Library needed more resources on herbs. This was a great way to reach out to the community and educate them on herbs."
In honor of The Society's ten-year anniversary, each member was given ten dollars to spend on anything that would promote herbs within the community. Several members put their money together to purchase new books for the Owensville Branch. Their donation enabled the library to purchase The Whole Herb by Barbara Pleasant, The Herb Garden Cookbook by Lucinda Hutson, and Herbs in the Home by Katherine Richmond.
The Log Cabin Herb Society also donated The Herb Companion through the new "Adopt-A-Magazine" program. The Herb Companion is a bi-monthly magazine devoted to the interests of herb gardeners, cooks, crafters and enthusiasts. It contains articles on horticulture, original recipes, and step-by-step directions for herbal craft projects.
Elizabeth Fiene, Owensville Branch manager, says, "We are very excited to receive these donations. The subjects of gardening and cooking are very popular at the Library and publications on herbs combine the best of both interests."
The books and magazine will show the community how herbs can be used for nutritional cooking, medicinal purposes and even fun craft projects. There are several upcoming programs to teach children about herbs. Amy Huss, a member of The Log Cabin Herb Society, will present "Gardening For Kids" at the Milford-Miami Branch on Thursday, August 12 at 2 p.m. Children, age five and up, can learn how to make herbal bath salts. Call 248-0700 to register. Join Huss on Saturday, September 25 at 11 a.m. at the Owensville Branch for "Kids and Herbs." Children, in grades K-6, will make a surprise craft. Please call 732-6084 for more information or to register for the program.
