As hard as it is to believe, the holiday season is quickly approaching. Halloween candy will be ingested by the pounds, we’ll consume enough turkey at Thanksgiving to produce the most restful, post-dinner slumber ever*, and do we even really need to mention all the foods associated with Christmas, Hanukkah & Kwanzaa? Ok, we will anyway. There’s potato latkes, sufganiot, yam porridge, ham, figgy pudding… the list goes on and on! Is your mouth watering yet? Probably.
If you’re anything like the celebrating masses, chances are you’ve overindulged at some point during the previous holiday seasons. According to an article by Brant McCreadie and Dina McCreadie for Pacific Daily News, “most people gain anywhere from four to 10 pounds over the holiday season.”
So, of course, it makes sense that when January 1 rolls around we resolve to lose weight, start going to the gym, or kick unhealthy habits. But why wait until then? Getting healthy now is the best way to prevent unwanted holiday pounds from making an appearance. Plus, if you lose a few pounds now before the Halloween candy scares your skinny jeans to the furthest corners of your closet, you just might break even, instead of breaking your scale! It’s win, win!
