  1. Hi, I really want to join a writer’s group and was surprised to see there was one going on in Amelia. I would like to attend but I am not sure what I am supposed to do with the prompts and not sure what this group is like. Could you please give me a brief overview of what to expect when I attend a meeting? thank you

    • Hi,
Thanks for inquiring about the Amelia Writer’s group. The group meets in the meeting room of the Amelia Library on the second Tuesday of the month. We start at 6:00 p.m. The group consists of writers from all genres and all levels. The prompts are put on the blog before the next meeting and everyone is encouraged to choose once of the prompts and write. There are also five words each time which may be used to create a story. Some members make up their own prompt and share.

At the meeting we spend the first half reading the prompts and/or five word stories. Sometimes we will have timed writings using prompts, or share information that the entire group might find interesting. For example, one member took a class where they discussed Stephen King’s book On Writing and she shared information from that. Another time we shared websites that might be useful for writers and upcoming contests and/or writing events.

During the second half of the meeting those who wish to share projects or part of a project they are working on and wish for some feedback. I also hope to bring in outside speakers to talk with the group.

      Hope this helps. Phyllis
