Fun to Read

What do dust bunnies and a grumpy fish have in common? Well, quite a lot actually. They are both characters in children’s picture books. They rhyme and they make reading fun.

rhyming dust bunnies, by Jan Thomas is about four dust bunnies that like rhyming words. That is except for Bob, he just doesn’t quite get it. Of course he does have other things on his mind.

The Pout-Pout Fish, by Deborah Diesen is about a very glum fish. He is always pouty and down in the dumps. When asked about his constant state of depression, he says that he is just made that way. That is until one day when he has a reason to turn that frown upside down.

Learning letter sounds and having fun reading are two things that promote early literacy and these are two great books to help kids get “ready to read.”
