Williamsburg Writers Group

female writing“Writing is something you do alone. It’s a profession for introverts who want to tell you a story but don’t want to make eye contact while doing it.” –John Green

John Green might have a point, but it can be lonely writing by yourself, typing away without anyone to share your successes or failures with after you’ve exhausted the patience of loved ones. Although writing is usually a solitary act, it is still important for writers to have support.

One way to get this is to join the Williamsburg Branch Library’s writing group. After all, no one understands the compulsion to write like another writer. The Williamsburg Creative Writing Group meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 10:30 AM. Everyone is welcome to read their work if they wish but it is not required. The group gives positive feedback, specific critiques if required, and discusses the art and world of writing. Occasionally we will do writing exercises during the meeting or have a meeting centered on one specific topic. Feeling uninspired? Prompts are given weekly, though responses are not required. Join others who are interested in writing or even just in hearing a good tale. New members are always welcome—we won’t even make you make eye contact.
