Your Next Adventure Begins at the Library: Updated Lonely Planet Guidebooks

By Amy Matheney, Branch Manager
Have a flair for wanderlust? Me, too! I often take weekend drives exploring within a five-hour drive of Cincinnati. The journey, for me, begins before I leave my house.
I enjoy planning the trip, not with a strict itinerary, but more like immersing myself in the community I’ll visit. I want to visit the places that the locals go to and recommend.
Typically, I have a list of hidden gems and locally owned destinations to stop by. It helps that I’m a talker and will definitely start a conversation with the librarian, bookshop
owner, or server. A huge bonus for my family is getting to the destination via scenic routes, stumbling upon places to picnic and hike.
Updated Lonely Planet Guidebooks
That’s why I was thrilled to learn that the 2027 updated Lonely Planet guidebooks are introducing new features, including: “Three Days” and “24 hours in . . .” that are useful for travelers with limited time, who may be looking for a ready-made itinerary.
Walking Tours highlight exploring a destination on foot.
Expanded food and drink coverage connects travelers to the destination through cuisine. Just as Cincinnati is famous for chili, what is your destination's must-try dish?
The visual redesign allows travelers to scan before they read by including more photographs, 3D illustrations, and themed “spotter’s guides.” These quickly identify sights and culture.
